‘Quality’… Ange Postecoglou says £22m Tottenham player’s finishing has actually been brilliant lately

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised his skipper Son Heung-Min’s finishing.

Speaking to Football.London ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Manchester City tomorrow, the Spurs boss was asked about Son Heung-Min’s recent struggles in front of goal.

The South Korean star is without a goal in his last three Premier League appearances. But he has hit the back of the net four times.

Indeed, Son had an effort ruled out for offside in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea. The 31-year-old also had three goals chalked off by VAR due to the same reason against Aston Villa last time out.

Son has netted eight times in 13 Premier League games this season and it’s fair to say that Ange Postecoglou isn’t concerned about his striker.

Postecoglou says Son’s finishing has been brilliant despite recent offsides

Speaking to the media on Friday, Postecoglou was asked about Son being caught offside frequently over the past few games.

“Some of it is still us understanding,” the Spurs boss said. “There’s a couple of times last week when we could have played the ball a little bit earlier and his timing was perfect,” said Postecoglou.

“Part of it is just understanding because Sonny is a different kind of striker to how Harry was. Players are used to having a focal point who was a bit different. It’s a combination of both. Like I said, if we passed it a millisecond earlier, his timing is perfect. It’s a bit of both.

“What isn’t undeniable is him from offside positions, he’s still finishing things, still scoring goals, and that’s still the hardest part of the game. You know the quality is there. It’s just about his runs but also us maybe seeing things that little bit earlier.”

It will be encouraging for Postecoglou that Son is still finding himself in the right positions to put the ball in the back of the net.

The £22 million man was marginally offside on three occasions last time out against Villa. But each time, he managed to produce an emphatic finish.

Son has proven himself to be one of the most lethal finishers in Europe during his time at Spurs and Postecoglou will need him at his best over the coming weeks.

It’s no secret that Tottenham have several key players sidelined through injury and face a stern test at Manchester City tomorrow.

Fortunately for Spurs, Son boasts a good record against the champions and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him back amongst the goals on Sunday.
