‘He’s stepped up’… Pedro Porro says people always underrate ‘amazing’ Tottenham player

Pedro Porro claims that Son Heung-Min has ‘stepped up’ since Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur over the summer.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Pedro Porro says he feels people always underestimate Tottenham’s new skipper.

Tottenham have faired well without their former talisman Harry Kane so far after the Englishman made the switch to Bayern Munich over the summer.

Spurs opted against bringing in a new senior striker, with the club moving to sign youngster Alejo Veliz and versatile forward Brennan Johnson.

Richarlison started the season as Postecoglou’s preferred choice up front, with Son operating off the left-hand side. But after the Brazilian struggled in the two opening games of the campaign, Postecoglou turned to Son.

The 31-year-old has netted eight times in 13 Premier League appearances and is helping to fill the void left by Kane.

And while Porro admits Kane’s exit was ‘painful’ for everyone at the club, he feels it has allowed other players to step up.

Porro says people underestimate Son

Speaking to The Telegraph, Porro explained why he thinks Kane’s exit has helped Son take more responsibility at Spurs.

“Kane’s exit was painful for everyone because he was the heart and soul of the club,” he said. “I would have liked to have enjoyed Kane more because we didn’t spend much time together.

“He is a special striker, used to scoring goals everywhere. He has not found it difficult to adapt to Bayern. He is undoubtedly one of the best in the world. However, I think we at Tottenham have been able to overcome that absence quickly.

“Maybe there are more authoritative voices now. Son, for example, has taken the baton. Since Kane left, he’s stepped up, he’s taken responsibility and you can feel that inside and outside the dressing room. People usually underestimate him, maybe because he was always in the background, but he’s an out-and-out player.”

Son has stepped up to his new role as captain excellently and has led by example at Tottenham this season.

Indeed, the ‘amazing‘ South Korean forward even issued a public apology to Spurs fans after suffering three defeats on the bounce last month.

But it’s fair to say that despite recent results, the majority of Tottenham supporters are enjoying the ride under Postecoglou so far.

The Aussie has managed to get the best out of a host of players and Son certainly falls into that category.
