‘Absolutely amazing’… Paul Merson left stunned by £45m Arsenal player vs Wolves today

Paul Merson was left amazed by Gabriel Jesus in Arsenal’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium today.

Merson was covering the game for Sky Sports News and singled out Gabriel Jesus for praise after his role in Arsenal’s opener.

The Gunners opened the scoring inside the opening six minutes against Wolves after a delightful move.

Bukayo Saka finished off the move but it was Jesus who impressed Merson with a brilliant piece of hold-up play.

The £45 million man received the ball from Saka before holding off Toti Gomes and producing an exceptional piece of skill.

He then played it to Takehiro Tomiyasu, who set up Saka for a simple finish to hand Arsenal the lead. And Merson raved about Jesus’ footwork while covering today’s game.

Merson stunned by Jesus skill

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson singled out Jesus for praise shortly after Arsenal’s opener.

“I said Arsenal have started well and they’re 1-0 up, it’s Saka who’s scored it,” he said. “Saka gets the ball on the right, and plays a little ball to Jesus on the edge of the box.

“His feet are absolutely amazing. He holds it up, flicks it back to Saka again, he rolls it around. Brilliant play.”

Arsenal soon doubled their advantage as Oleksandr Zinchenko set up Martin Odegaard just seven minutes following another breathtaking move.

Mikel Arteta’s men seem to have found their best form once again in the final third after they also thrashed RC Lens 6-0 on Wednesday.

Jesus got on the scoresheet in Europe once again during the week and he seems to be finding his feet after a disrupted start to the season due to injury.

Wolves did grow into today’s game by the end of the first half and picked up where they left off at the start of the second period.

David Raya was forced to make a couple of decent saves to deny Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Cunha.

Gary O’Neil’s men eventually pulled one back through Cunha in the 85th to set up a nervy final 10 minutes of action at the Emirates. But Arteta’s men managed to see out a crucial win to keep them at the top of the pile in the Premier League.
