‘Crazy’…Kevin Campbell shocked after hearing news out of Everton this weekend

Everton have been rocked by news this weekend that they will be handed a ten point deduction due to failures to comply with FFP rules.

The Toffees have been under investigation and were found guilty of the breaches yesterday. Their ten point loss comes into effect immediately, although the club are in the process of appealing it.

A number of pundits such as Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen have expressed their surprise at the ruling over the last 24 hours.

And speaking on Sky Sports today, former Everton striker Kevin Campbell has admitted his surprise at the decision as well.

Kevin Campbell reacts to Everton points deduction

Speaking to Sky, former Arsenal and Everton man Campbell admitted he now wants the club to fight the deduction.

“When I heard the news I was like ‘TEN POINTS!’, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. If Everton had gone into administration they’ve have got nine points, that’s the going rate. So to see what’s been going on there. They’ve been working with the PL then this independent body excessively sees the issue as ten points. I just could not believe what I was seeing. I think it is very very excessive. I want the people at Everton upstairs to fight this as it’s crazy,” Campbell said.

Everton’s points deduction has plunged them into the relegation zone alongside Sheffield United and Burnley.

Luckily, though, both the Blades and the Clarets are having nightmare seasons, as are Bournemouth and Luton, which means Everton are only one win off getting out of the mire.

Whether or not Everton can win an appeal in time for this season, remains to be seen. A number of clubs are also thought to be suing the Toffees for millions, throwing another spanner in the works.
