‘Elite clubs’… Michael Owen reacts to Everton’s 10-point deduction

Michael Owen has given his verdict on Everton receiving a 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker has shared what he really thinks about Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

So, what has Michael Owen said about Everton? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Everton have been penalised for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules.

As reported by BBC Sport, an independent commission found Everton’s losses to 2021-22 amounted to £124.5 million, more than the £105 million permitted over three years.

The Toffees have been given a 10-point deduction.

And, as you can see below, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen is not impressed.

Owen has said that he does not like FFP rules. The former England international striker believes that FFP “protects the elite clubs”.

Everton are now second from bottom in the Premier League table with four points from 12 matches. Sean Dyche’s side are two points behind Luton Town in 17th.

Everton have to stay strong

I believe that Everton need to stay strong and focused. The team will need the fans now.

Yes, it is a big disappointment for Everton, but I believe that the Toffees will recover from it.

It is only the middle of November. There is enough time for Everton to get out of the Premier League bottom three.

Before the 10-point deduction, Everton were above the likes of Burnley, Sheffield United, Luton Town and Bournemouth in the Premier League table.

The Toffees were above them in the standings because they were better. That has not changed.

Everton have been doing well lately as well. Sean Dyche’s side have won three of their last five Premier League games.

I believe that Everton have what it takes to escape the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.
