Michail Antonio shares what the referee told him after Everton scored vs West Ham on Saturday

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has now been detailing an important incident from the game against Everton on the weekend.

Antonio was speaking on the ‘Footballer’s Football Podcast’ and has now shared what Stuart Attwell said to him after Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored.

The West Ham striker felt as if he was fouled by Jarrad Branthwaite in the lead up to the goal when the defender made his interception.

Antonio felt he was hit in the face, but the referee didn’t think there was an incident worth checking with VAR.

Speaking on the podcast, Antonio said: “It was a foul. It was a foul. I got hit in my face as I’m trying to control the ball.

“I went to the referee and the referee says he didn’t feel he saw anything and the VAR didn’t do anything, so it is what it is.”

Of course, Antonio still must have been impressed by Calvert-Lewin’s finish even if he did feel aggrieved.

Calvert-Lewin has been praised for his role in Everton’s win, a player Sean Dyche simply can’t afford to lose in January.

Antonio thought Everton’s goal should have been disallowed against West Ham

Similarly, Jarrad Branthwaite has also received his fair share of applause for his role in the goal.

Although Antonio thought it was a foul, the defender has been celebrated for his anticipation at the back.

Antonio may have been focusing on one specific incident here, but he did go on to lament West Ham’s overall performance against Everton as well.

Sean Dyche’s side arguably did deserve their vital three points in East London.

And West Ham will now seek an improved performance when they host Arsenal in the EFL Cup tonight.

The game will mark Declan Rice’s first return to the club that he used to captain, and Mikel Arteta has hinted that he’ll be involved.

On the other hand, Everton will be hosting Burnley this evening, and Dyche will now want to continue the good showing from the weekend.
