Jose Mourinho now interested in signing ‘brilliant’ Rangers player for Roma

Rangers may face a battle to keep Ross McCausland at Ibrox, with two Serie A sides monitoring the 20-year-old ahead of his contract expiring next summer.

That is according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, which notes that Roma and Atalanta are keeping an eye on the Northern Ireland international’s development.

Roma interested in Ross McCausland

Rangers will surely be looking to press ahead with agreeing a new contract with Ross McCausland. The winger has made a bright start to his first-team career with the Gers. He has featured in the club’s last five Scottish Premiership games.

Lee McCulloch recently suggested to BBC Sportsound (9/11; 22:04) that McCausland had been ‘brilliant’ for the Gers.

Unfortunately for Rangers, his form has caught the eye elsewhere. Tuttomercatoweb reports that Roma and Atalanta are both interested in McCausland.

They are yet to make contact over a potential move. However, they may be able to reach out over a possible pre-contract deal in the new year if Rangers are unable to agree an extension anytime soon.

The report adds that the Italian sides would have to pay around £393,000 in compensation if they do manage to sign the youngster.

Interest acts as a warning to the Gers

It would be a blow for Rangers to lose McCausland. And Philippe Clement will hope that his recent run in the first-team helps convince him to stay.

The prospect of working with Jose Mourinho or Gian Piero Gasperini will be tempting for any young player. But playing fairly regularly is surely particularly important at this stage of his career.

Rangers certainly, need to look at the links as a warning to make sure that they agree a new contract with the starlet sooner rather than later.
