‘He will say’… Pundit makes utterly bizarre Brendan Rodgers prediction after Celtic’s draw vs Motherwell

The reaction to Celtic’s draw with Motherwell has had the usual doom and gloom responses that you would expect with dropped points at home.

A poor display always focuses the attention sharply on the quality of the squad when in actual fact, these results simply happen in football.

But it didn’t stop radio pundit, Hugh Keevins, from making a prediction about Brendan Rodgers that many Celtic fans will find completely bizarre.

Keevins said [Clyde SSB], “My contention has always been, I thought I was talking about Michael Beale and Brendan Rodgers. I’m now talking about Phillipe Clement and Brendan Rodgers.

“At the start of the season, my contention was the one who fails to win the league will not be there the season thereafter, because the temperature in this city now and in the West of Scotland is such that fans will not stand for being second.

“The Rangers fans and the board knew he was sleepwalking towards a Celtic title win so they got rid of him.

“If Brendan Rodgers does not win the league, and he has a transfer window to try and sort out what’s going on.

“He knows his squad is far too big and he knows he’s got far too many mediocre players in it and development players.

“If he doesn’t win the league, he will say I’m off.”

Well, what can you say to that? Except that this opinion is completely so wide of the mark it has its own orbit.

Brendan Rodgers is happy at Celtic

The return of Rodgers caused a bit of a ruckus amongst the Celtic fans. The reasons for that are widely known so I don’t need to go into it again here.

However, Rodgers is still unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership. Rodgers reiterated his happiness at Celtic at the recent AGM where he said that he was ‘very lucky‘ and privileged to be asked to return to the club.

There is no question that Rodgers would even think about walking away from Celtic should he fail to win the league this season. The Celtic manager is determined to put right the wrongs of walking away in 2018.

What message would that send to the supporters if he bailed at the first opportunity? At the time of joining Celtic, Rodgers said [BBC], “As a Celtic supporter, I understood what it meant. So that was my regret, that I hurt Celtic supporters and it’s a big part of coming back.

“Hopefully in time, I can give you that feeling I gave you the first time. I don’t expect anything, but if I get that support, great.

“For those who doubt, I’ve had that all my career so I will continue to work hard and hopefully a team that plays with the commitment people will enjoy. It will just take time.

“I’ve signed for three years and I guarantee I’ll be here for three years unless I get emptied before that, as they say up here.”

Does that sound like a man who will walk away after one disappointment? Not for me.
