‘Needs to do more’: Kris Boyd thinks ‘talented’ Rangers man is really underperforming after summer Leeds United links

Kris Boyd believes that Glasgow Rangers winger Ryan Kent needs to be doing more for his side this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports (16/10 11:46), Boyd believed that Kent has been underperforming for a player as talented as he is.

Kent has always attracted interest from clubs south of the border since arriving at Rangers in 2018.

At the end of the summer transfer window, Leeds were interested in signing Ryan Kent.

The 25-year-old was touted as a potential replacement for Daniel James, with the winger’s future at Elland Road in doubt.

James eventually joined Fulham on loan, but Leeds didn’t replace the speedy Welshman.

Kent’s form hasn’t been brilliant this season, and he hasn’t reached the levels Rangers fans would know he’s capable of.

Boyd admitted that Kent is ‘talented’ but says he needs to be doing more going forward for Rangers.

Boyd: ‘Rangers need more from Kent’

Speaking ahead of Rangers’ clash with Motherwell, Boyd said: “There’s no doubt he’s got the ability.

“He was left out of the starting line-up last week as well, and he came back in against Liverpool.

“You go back over the last two, three maybe four seasons he’s been up here, every single thing from an attacking area goes through Ryan Kent, get Ryan Kent on the ball, he makes things happen.

“You do have a dip every now and again, but he’ll pick himself and go again, because he is a talented football player.

“Rangers do need more from him, he needs to do more for himself. In the contract situation, it’s one where you can look at it and say, has he spoken to somebody are there other things there.

“Even if you have and your future’s away from Rangers, then you’ve got to be doing better to show them that you’re ready to come to you, whether it’s in January or next summer.

“There’s no doubt that he’s got to be doing more, but I wouldn’t write him off because he’s such a talented footballer.”

Kent was slated for his performance against Ajax in the Champions League last month.

He’s only scored once in the league so far this season, but has already produced four assists.

He will need to start picking up more goals and assists to match his tally of 19 goal contributions from two seasons ago.

Rangers fans will be hoping they see more from Kent soon.

If the player has ambitions to play in the Premier League, he’ll need to be on top form to start turning heads again in England.
