‘Confidence looks shot’, ‘3/10’: Player Leeds United reportedly wanted to sign this summer slammed for ‘quiet’ Champions League display

Leeds United reportedly wanted to sign Rangers winger Ryan Kent this summer but they may not be too disappointed in missing out after he was slammed for his ‘quiet’ Champions League display last night.

Reports suggested that Leeds were interested in bringing Kent to Elland Road as a potential Daniel James replacement.

James did end up joining Fulham on loan and Leeds failed to land a replacement.

Kent was apparently an option for the Whites after having a £15 million bid rejected for the player last summer, according to the Daily Mail.

But the move didn’t materialise and Kent has remained at Ibrox for the time being.

Kent slammed for ‘quiet’ Champions League display

Rangers kicked off their Champions League campaign away to Dutch champions Ajax last night.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men fell to a heavy 4-0 defeat in what was a disappointing night for the Scottish outfit.

The Gers were coming off the back of a heavy defeat in the Old Firm derby over the weekend and were looking to bounce back.

But Rangers were outplayed by Ajax and it was a poor display from the team.

Most of Van Bronckhort’s men were underwhelming but Kent has come under particular scrutiny for his ‘quiet’ performance.

The Daily Record claimed the 25-year-old’s confidence ‘looks shot’ and that it was another night where he failed to live up to his reputation as a ‘big-game hunter’. The outlet rated his performance a three out of 10.

The Herald were slightly more generous in their rating as they gave Kent a four. But they say Ajax’s Devyne Rensch controlled the winger all night and that the Englishman was guilty of being offside for Rangers’ disallowed goal.

Another publication wasn’t impressed with Kent’s display either as they slammed his defensive efforts in the game.

Glasgow Live wrote: “Quiet again. Got in behind once to tee up Barisic for a goal but was offside. Didn’t look too keen on helping defensively.”

Rangers are coming off the back of two heavy 4-0 defeats and will be looking to bounce back against Aberdeen this weekend.

As for Kent, he has struggled so far this season and is clearly not at his best at this moment in time.

But the former Liverpool man has been brilliant for Rangers over the past few seasons and will undoubtedly get back to his best once again.

The Englishman is yet to score for Rangers this season but has provided three assists already.
