West Ham now want to sign £150k-a-week midfielder who Michail Antonio says is ‘unreal’

David Moyes’s West Ham United want to sign Kalvin Phillips from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

That is according to TuttoJuve, which has noted a potential hurdle that the Hammers face in getting a deal done for the former Leeds United midfielder.

So, what is being reported about West Ham United and Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to TuttoJuve, West Ham United have joined the race to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City in the January transfer window.

Newcastle United and Juventus were already on the hunt for Phillips, and West Ham are now showing interest in the £150,000-a-week (Spotrac) midfielder.

The report in the Italian news outlet has noted that West Ham manager David Moyes has a long-term interest in the England international midfielder.

The Hammers tried to sign Phillips before he left Leeds for City.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio rates Phillips highly and has previously described him as “unreal” on the Footballer’s Football Podcast.

As noted by TuttoJuve, Newcastle and Juventus have already been interested in Phillips, which means that the Hammers will not find it easy to get a deal done in the middle of the season.

West Ham United could struggle to sign Kalvin Phillips

In my opinion, West Ham United could find it hard to convince Kalvin Phillips to move to London Stadium in the January transfer window.

Yes, the Hammers are playing in the UEFA Europa League this season, but the London club are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League top four.

There is interest from Newcastle United and Juventus in the 27-year-old. Newcastle are playing in the UEFA Champions League and are challenging for the top four. Juventus could win Serie A.

There is speculation that Newcastle are Phillips’ preferred option. I can understand why. The midfielder could go straight into Eddie Howe’s starting lineup in the place of the banned Sandro Tonali.
