Real Madrid join Arsenal in race for £215,000-a-week ‘lightning’ striker

Mikel Arteta’s quest to bring Dusan Vlahovic to Arsenal is now being threatened by Real Madrid.

That is according to TuttoJuve, which has claimed that Spanish and European giants Madrid are keen on the Juventus striker.

So, what is being reported about Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic and Real Madrid? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to TuttoJuve, Real Madrid are on the hunt for a striker and are looking at a potential deal for Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic.

Juventus have no intention of selling Vlahovic, but if the striker does not sign a new deal, then the former Serie A champions could change their mind.

Madrid’s interest in Vlahovic means that Arsenal are now facing competition for the striker.

Earlier this month, Football Transfers reported that Arsenal are keen on signing Vlahovic. The report noted that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of Vlahovic and wants his club to get a deal done for him.

Real Madrid over Arsenal for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic

In my opinion, Arsenal are unlikely to be able to sign Dusan Vlahovic ahead of Real Madrid.

Madrid are (arguably?) the biggest club in the world. The former La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners tend to get the players they truly want.

I believe that a move to Madrid would be more appealing to Vlahovic, who is faster than Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku, than a transfer to Arsenal.

After all, Los Blancos regularly compete and win La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Moreover, Vlahovic has already rejected Arsenal once. I would not be surprised if the 23-year-old £215,000-a-week (SalarySport) striker once again decides against a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The only factor that could favour Arsenal is the future of Kylian Mbappe. If Madrid are able to get a deal done for the Paris Saint-Germain forward, then they would not need another striker.

Therefore, Arsenal could potentially get a free run at Vlahovic, who is “lightning”, according to former Manchester City and Fiorentina defender Micah Richards on BBC Radio 5 Live in December 2021.
