Report: ‘Brilliant’ Leeds player is now expecting to leave before deadline, his agents are working on a deal

Wales international Daniel James is now expecting to leave Leeds United before the current transfer window closes.

However, the Evening Standard report that a switch to join Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur is now unlikely.

They report that James’ agents are working on an exit for their client before the 11pm deadline, as he is not a major part of Jesse Marsch’s plans.

It had already been reported that James had opened his mind to departing in the nick of time and now it seems likely to happen.

The report says that Everton held an interest in James but that seems to only be as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon.

Fulham are also said to be in the race as they look to add to a squad which has performed impressively in the Premier League since promotion.

Perhaps there is another suitor on the scene, and that could well be the reason that Spurs have dropped to a position where they are not likely to get him.

Marcus Rashford hailed James as ‘brilliant’ when he was at Manchester United but it did not work out for him at Old Trafford.

It seemed he made that move too early and it looked like his development would have been better served going to Leeds at the time when his projected Elland Road move fell apart in the Championship.

But he is set to move on again in what is a slightly surprising development and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
