Ange Postecoglou says ‘unbelievable’ Tottenham player could be back from injury this week

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has admitted he’s hopeful Pape Matar Sarr will return from injury by the end of the week.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS after yesterday’s 3-3 draw at Manchester City, the Tottenham boss shared a fresh update on Pape Matar Sarr’s fitness.

The 21-year-old has missed Tottenham’s last two Premier League games after picking up an injury during the international break.

Sarr missed training just two days before the defeat to Aston Villa and was also left out of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad for the trip to Manchester yesterday.

The Senegalese midfielder has been a star man at Spurs so far this campaign and his injury came at the worst possible time for Postecoglou.

But the Aussie boss is hopeful the youngster will return to action by the end of this week.

Postecoglou says Sarr could be back this week

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Postecoglou shared an update on Sarr’s fitness and admitted he’s also glad to have Richarlison back.

“It was good to get Richy some time today,” he said. “Hopefully Pape Sarr by the end of the week will be back.

“The rest of them are all long term and won’t be back until January.

The Spurs boss was then asked if the rest of his squad had come through unscathed after thrilling 90 minutes of action at City.

“Yeah, hopefully all okay and a clean bill of health,” he responded.

Postecoglou welcomed back Richarlison yesterday after the Brazil star underwent surgery on his groin last month.

He remains without key players such as Micky van de Ven and James Maddison but will have Cristian Romero back from suspension for the clash against West Ham on Thursday.

Things are suddenly starting to look a bit brighter for Spurs after such a difficult period due to injuries and suspensions.

If Sarr also returns by the end of this week, Postecoglou’s list of absent players will be considerably shorter.

The ‘unbelievable’ midfielder impressed in the early stages of the season but he will face competition to regain his place in the side.

Indeed, Yves Bissouma returned to action at City yesterday while Giovani Lo Celso has caught the eye in midfield, netting two goals in his last two games.

Dejan Kulusevski has also impressed in the middle of the park. But it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Swede moved back out wide to bring Sarr into midfield once again.
