‘I know him’: Ryan Sessegnon reacts after Tottenham are linked with signing £20m player

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Ryan Sessegnon looks set to be joined by an international teammate this week, as Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence nears his move to North London.

The Evening Standard reports that Spurs and Boro have agreed a deal for Spence. Tottenham will reportedly pay an initial £12.5m which could rise to £20m with add-ons.

Sessegnon has been reacting to the possible arrival of Spence and the pair have actually played together in the past at Fulham’s academy.

While speaking to Football.London, the Spurs man gave some insight into what Spence will bring to North London.

He said: “I know him from Fulham growing up. We played together in the Fulham academy. From what I’ve seen he’s an attacking full-back but that’s all I can say at the moment.”

Although Sessegnon may have held back a bit due to the transfer not being officially done yet, it’s thought that the deal could be completed at any moment. Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that the Boro man had completed his medical.

If the deal goes through as expected, Spence will become Tottenham’s sixth summer signing. And he’s clearly a player that Sessegnon knows well.

Due to his ‘attacking’ qualities that the Spurs man mentioned, he should be a great fit in the wing-back role under boss Antonio Conte.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and played a vital role in the club being promoted to the Premier League.

He really found form under Forest boss Steve Cooper, scoring two goals and assisting five times in the Championship last season.

Spence also put in some brilliant displays in Forest’s FA Cup run, with notable performances against Arsenal and Leicester City. These performances should excite Spurs fans as he has clearly shown he’s capable of performing against Premier League opposition.
