Glenn Hoddle has now broken his silence on the accusations levelled against him in the recent Netflix documentary series, BECKHAM, about the life of David Beckham.

Hoddle responds to what Beckham said in the Netflix documentary

Victoria Beckham claimed Hoddle ‘failed to protect’ her husband, David, from the torrent of abuse following the red card. The midfielder was just 23 years old at the time of the incident which sparked widespread criticism. While Hoddle was the manager of England at the time.

Hoddle has now responded to the accusations levelled against him in the BECKHAM Netflix documentary about the vicious fallout. The retired coach states that he has no issue ‘at all’ with Beckham and his mother, especially after surviving a near-fatal cardiac arrest in 2018.

“No problem at all with David,” Hoddle told talkSPORT. “He’s been a fabulous player for me. I’ve got no worries with what he said. I believe his Mum had a little dig at me. I tell you what my Mum would have defended me to the hilt, as well.

“My daughter sent me an interview I did in France where I was defending him after the game, saying we can’t make him a scapegoat. I haven’t seen the documentary. It wasn’t a red card, never!

“That’s where I’ve looked at it and thought how is he giving him a red? But I haven’t seen it and after what happened to me five years ago, those things don’t bother me.”

Director Fisher Stevens recently revealed to talkSPORT that Netflix contacted Hoddle ‘many times’ to respond to the accusations in their BECKHAM documentary series. But the former England and Tottenham Hotspur manager showed no need to take part in filming the show.

Hoddle has now responded to the accusations levelled against him, whilst pointing out how Beckham’s mum also spoke about his controversial red card at the 1998 World Cup. Sandra sought to use it as a chance to highlight how Beckham and Hoddle’s relationship fell apart.

“Glenn Hoddle said his head wasn’t in the right place [before England played Tunisia], didn’t he?” Sandra Beckham said in the Netflix documentary, via the Mirror. “I just put him on my hit list – people that upset me.”

Sandra continued, referencing Hoddle stating how Beckham’s red card ‘cost us, it’s cost us dearly’ after Argentina beat England: “When I watched Glenn Hoddle’s interview I thought, ‘No, what have you done?’

“He made it that it was David’s fault. And we’d been used to a manager, Alex Ferguson, who never spoke about his team. They just blamed him after that.”
