‘Awful’…Roy Keane rips into £35m player for what he did during Manchester City v Tottenham today

Tottenham were the ones to score the first goal at Manchester City today and Roy Keane has slammed goalkeeper Ederson for his role.

Spurs took the lead when Heung-Min Son fired in past the City goalkeeper after robbing Jeremy Doku on the break.

The South Korean got his shot on target as all good strikers do. However, the ball was straight at Ederson and the Brazilian somehow allowed it to slip past him into the goal.

Ederson, normally so reliable after his £35m move to the club in 2017, was clearly annoyed with himself and that feeling was the same from Roy Keane, who slammed the City stopper.

Speaking on Sky Sports at half-time, Keane labelled Ederson as ‘awful’ for the goal.

“City were all over the place for Spurs’ goal. The goalkeeper has to do better, he’s got to save it. It’s awful goalkeeping. As bad as they’ve been, they’ve been a threat going forward. A goalkeeper of Ederson’s quality should save it. City have been great going forward but they’ve looked vulnerable at the back. Spurs were all over the place defensively. I bet Foden couldn’t believe his luck. It’s as simple as you like,” Keane said.

Ederson can and should do better

Luckily for Ederson, Manchester City have so many top players going forward that if he makes a mistake, he’s normally getting away with it.

The Brazilian has been nothing short of outstanding since he signed but he does have these little lapses every so often and one day it could be huge for City.

Of course, he remains a top goalkeeper and will always help keep City in games as well.

However, pundits like Keane take some pleasing and the former Man United man did not mince his words as usual.
