Rangers and Celtic told that Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson will cost more than £4m

Aberdeen legend Willie Miller has claimed in his Evening Express column that interested parties will have to spend more than £4million to sign midfielder Lewis Ferguson this summer – amid links to both Old Firm sides Celtic and Rangers.

Ferguson, 21, the son of ex-Rangers midfielder Derek and the nephew of Rangers icon Barry Ferguson, is excelling at Aberdeen – already clocking up 124 appearances for the Dons in all competitions. His form this season has attracted interest.

Indeed, the 11-time Scotland Under-21 international was the subject of a £2million offer from Watford this week – which has been rejected, according to The Sun. They report that Rangers are also keeping tabs on Ferguson, ahead of the summer window.

Uncle Barry recently told Go Radio, as per the Sun, that Ferguson’s family would not stop him from joining Celtic over Rangers should the Hoops be interested – but Miller has told Celtic, Rangers and other clubs that he should cost more than £4million.

“£2m is nowhere near exceptional,” Miller told the Evening Express. “Every player has a price, but £2m is not enough for a player of Ferguson’s pedigree, who is so consistent, has such a bright future and also delivers goals.

“Any club interested in signing Ferguson would have to come in with an exceptional bid in excess of £4million. The bottom line is, for teams in Scotland, and I include Rangers and Celtic in this, if the offer is right the player goes.”

TBR’s view – Ferguson easily worth £4m

The midfielder churned out 15 goal involvements in 41 appearances for Aberdeen this season, scoring 10 goals and creating five more – despite largely playing as a holding midfielder. He has more than 120 games under his belt, at just 21.

He is going to go on and have an incredible career, and of course, Rangers is likely to be his first choice and the Gers will like a long-term replacement for Steven Davis – who is now 36. Celtic need a defensive midfielder too, with Scott Brown leaving.

Is he worth £4million? Easily.
