‘Relentless’… Nation’s media blown away by £120k-a-week Aston Villa player’s display last night

The Scottish media have raved about Aston Villa captain John McGinn’s display against Norway last night.

John McGinn continued his excellent run of form for Scotland as he bagged a goal and registered an assist in a 3-3 draw at Hampden Park.

The Aston Villa skipper calmly slotted away his penalty to level up the score at 1-1 in the 13th minute.

McGinn moved up to sixth in Scotland’s all-time top goalscorers list with the goal, level with Kenny Miller and just one behind Rangers legend Ally McCoist

Norway took the lead once again but McGinn helped Scotland to get back into the game with a commanding performance from midfield.

The 29-year-old produced an exceptional pass to set up Stuart Armstrong for Scotland’s third of the evening.

A late Mohamed Elyounoussi goal denied Scotland all three points. But it’s fair to say that McGinn impressed on the night.

Scottish media rave about McGinn’s display against Norway

The Herald handed McGinn an eight out of 10 for his performance and raved about the midfielder’s quality.

The outlet wrote: “Stepped up to slot home penalty in the first half. Relentless running paired with craft and quality going forward.

“Superbly teed up Armstrong for third goal but hobbled off injured in worrying close to match.”

Glasgow Live were slightly less generous as they handed McGinn a seven.

But the outlet claimed the Villa skipper is ‘probably Scotland’s best player at the moment’.

McGinn hobbled off with just 10 minutes of the game left and appeared to be holding his knee.

While Villa fans will undoubtedly be worried about the £120,00-a-week man’s fitness, the injury wasn’t mentioned by McGinn or Steve Clarke after the game.

Of course, the Villains face a crucial clash against fellow top-four hopefuls Tottenham this weekend and they will be hopeful McGinn is available for selection.
