Report: ‘Extremely fast’ player Newcastle and Arsenal want set to seal transfer; he was left out completely this weekend

Chelsea striker, Timo Werner, is set to sign for RB Leipzig, putting an end to any talk he might make a move to Newcastle or Arsenal.

Werner has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and was left out of the squad this weekend completely as the Blues ran out narrow winners at Everton. And according to Sky Sports, Werner is now close to sealing a return to Germany by signing for Leipzig.

The German international was seen as a key signing for Chelsea when he arrived. The Blues had beaten off Liverpool to land the ‘extremely fast’ forward. However, things have not gone to plan, even with Thomas Tuchel in charge, and Werner has struggled for goals and form.

Recent weeks have seen both Arsenal and Newcastle linked with Werner. However, a deal was always going to be difficult for either club due to Werner’s big wages, and he’s now set to seal a return to his homeland.

For Chelsea, it is yet another expensive centre-forward who hasn’t done the business. The Blues have already allowed Romelu Lukaku to leave this summer, with Werner now following. It leaves Tuchel short on options up top, with only Kai Havertz and the untried Armando Broja available for the number nine role.

TBR’s View: Werner Needed Fresh Start

This might not be the end of the world for Chelsea. If Timo Werner can do well on loan with Leipzig then there is every chance the Blues might benefit long-term.

Sky does report that it’s still undecided whether it will be a definite loan or a permanent move. But regardless, Chelsea and Werner needed to part ways with each other.

Werner will feel more at home in Leipzig and if he can get back to form, then ultimately, that’s the main thing for him.
