‘He’s on fire’… Micah Richards is surprised Chelsea didn’t sign £77m attacker in the summer

Chelsea have signed an almost entirely new squad over the past 12 months.

The Blues have signed so many new players that it’s tough to keep track of who has come and gone over the past year.

One player who has been forgotten almost as quickly as he made an impact at Stamford Bridge is Joao Felix.

The £77m attacker spent the second-half of last season on loan at Chelsea, and speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards has praised the Portuguese ace.

Richards, along with Gary Lineker, were ranking the 10 strangest red cards in Premier League history, and Felix’s dismissal against Fulham made the list.

Aside from that red card, Richards stated that he thinks Felix was actually really good for Chelsea during his time at the club, claiming that he genuinely thought they would sign him permanently when his loan came to an end.

Richards thought Felix would sign for Chelsea

Lineker and Richards spoke about the attacker.

‘He got that three game suspension immediately, I don’t think he’s gone over, he’s slid in and that’s a striker who doesn’t know how to tackle,” Lineker said.

“I actually thought he was good at Chelsea, I thought they would keep him on, but he’s gone to Barcelona and he’s on fire. But that was a terrible challenge,” Richards said.

Could’ve been useful

We can’t help but think that Felix could’ve been useful in this Chelsea team.

The Blues have evolved a lot since Mauricio Pochettino came in over the summer, and the idea of Felix playing in a fluid attack with Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer is mouth-watering.

Of course, this move didn’t come off and Felix is playing brilliantly for Barcelona as of late, and perhaps Chelsea will live to regret not making that move permanent in the summer.
