‘I didn’t realise’… Alan Shearer admits he’s been very shocked by £32m Newcastle player this season

Alan Shearer has given his verdict on Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento.

The Newcastle United legend was hugely impressed by how well Livramento played against Manchester United this past weekend.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has also praised the 21-year-old.

So, what have Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker said about Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento? Let’s take a look.

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker praise Newcastle United star Tino Livramento

Well, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have been raving about Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento on The Rest is Football podcast.

Newcastle legend Shearer and former Tottenham striker Lineker both were impressed by Livramento’s performance against Manchester United this past weekend.

Eddie Howe’s side beat Manchester United 1-0 at St. James’ Park in the Premier League. Anthony Gordon scored the goal. Midfielder Lewis Miley played well.

Livramento started at left-back and was superb for the Magpies. And, as you can see below, Lineker was hugely impressed and Shearer has admitted that he did not expect the £32 million (Sky Sports) player to be as good as he has turned out to be.

Lineker said about Livramento on The Rest is Football podcast: “He looks a very, very talented young player. Incredibly quick, powerful, great engine up and down the line there, Alan. He is one of those players that is 21 and he is available to play for England, Scotland and Portugal.

“I think Gareth Southgate needs to get on the phone to him, I know there is no games he can play in for a little while, but you would, wouldn’t you? He plays on both sides as well and I know right-back we have lots of really great right-backs and Luke Shaw is a really good left-back but definitely a really good player for the future.”

Shearer responded: “He has played for England at almost every level up until now. I would really hope that someone has already, and if they haven’t then they should rather quickly, get on the phone to him and tell him he has a big future in the England squad – whether that is at right-back or left-back.

“Because I am sure Newcastle bought him, they spent £30 million, and he did have a serious injury but there has always been that thing around him where he has huge potential and he’s a very good player, but I didn’t realise how good a player he was until I saw him at Newcastle, in a Newcastle shirt.

“When you consider some of the big games he has played in already this season, whether that is at right-back or like it was vs Man United at left-back, he has been absolutely sensational.”

Tino Livramento is a good signing for Newcastle United

In my opinion, Tino Livramento is a very good signing for Newcastle United.

Newcastle signed the full-back from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2023. I believe that the left-back will flourish under Eddie Howe.

The youngster has made two starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle this season. The 21-year-old has also given one assist in two Carabao Cup matches and has played twice in the UEFA Champions League for Eddie Howe’s side this campaign.

Newcastle are sixth in the Premier League table with 26 points from 14 matches. The Magpies are three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. They could also progress to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League this season.
