Well, according to Ashley Williams, Manchester United are missing Fred. The pundit believes that the Brazil international midfielder would have helped Casemiro in the middle of the park.
Williams made the comments in the wake of United’s failure to win against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.
United played out a 3-3 draw with Galatasaray away from home in Turkey. Goalkeeper Andre Onana had another bad match.
Casemiro did not play in the match. The Brazilian midfielder suffered a hamstring injury against Newcastle United earlier in the season and may not be back in action until January 2024.

Williams said on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel: “I have said this before, and in my opinion, the matter is as good as he is or was or whatever, I am not taking anything from him, sometimes you need a Robin to the Batman, and he has gone, and you lot battered him forever. He was like the butt of a lot of jokes. Fred. I just think that Fred’s missed.”
The pundit added: “I don’t think he was s***. I don’t think he was amazing. I would take him over Amrabat, I would take him over McTominay.”
My View: Fred needed to leave Manchester United
In my opinion, Manchester United are not missing Fred. The 30-year-old was not a massive success at Old Trafford, and I do not think that the Brazilian would have made a huge impact at the club this season.
Perhaps Fred was unfairly criticised during his time at Old Trafford. I personally do not think that the Brazilian had the calibre to play for as big and elite club as United.
United manager Erik ten Hag, who wants to sign Adrien Rabiot, sold Fred to Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 for £8.62 million (BBC Sport).
The 30-year-old has given one assist in nine Turkish Super Lig matches this season.
