Pundit says Celtic have an ‘outstanding’ player that reminds him of Patrick Roberts

The Celtic fans really love a winger who can take on his man, beat a player, make a world-class cross and lay on goals for their strikers.

In fact, they also love them when they score goals and that is exactly the reason why the Celtic support fell in love with Patrick Roberts in his first spell in Glasgow under Brendan Rodgers.

At just 21, Roberts was bursting onto the scene in English football. Snapped up by Manchester City for £12m, Roberts needed to get out on loan and get first team football. And in hs first season at Celtic, he set the game alight.

Which makes Stephen McGinn’s comparison with one current Celtic player that little bit more exciting. The current Falkirk captain and radio pundit was speaking about Luis Palma when he said that the Honduran reminded him a lot about Roberts.

McGinn said [The Go Radio Football Show], “When you think of the Brendan Rodgers first spell team and you think of Scott Sinclair and Paddy Roberts and inverted wingers coming in and you’d be one on one against a fullback and they’d cut in and get shots away.

“He is more suited, I think, to Brendan Rodgers. Fullbacks under Ange Postecoglou had a lot of control in the game. Obviously, it worked well.

“But now times get this no you’re looking to get into the wingers quicker and I thought the two wingers in the Aberdeen game were outstanding.”

Palma is certainly turning into a ‘fantastic’ player for Celtic. After a relatively slow start, the 23-year-old has now really come onto a game.

Tearing Aberdeen apart and making waves in the Champions League is just the start for Palma. As he grows into Celtic and gains more confidence, the Honduran winger looks like he is going to become a very effective weapon for Rodgers.

Many people want to see Palma take over the Jota mantle. Not me. I want him to become his own man and create his own special memories for the Celtic support.

And already he is starting to do that. Five goals in five assists so early into his Celtic is amazing and I get the feeling that Palma is just getting started.
