‘A cracker’… Davie Provan is blown away by 23-year-old Celtic player so far this season

The Luis Palma appreciation society seems to be in full flow as the Celtic winger continues to gain admirers as the season progresses.

Palma’s recent performances for Celtic have thrust him into the limelight as the 23-year-old continues to find the back of the net in the Scottish Premiership and in the Champions League.

And next to sing his praises is a player who knows a thing or two about being a successful winger for Celtic.

Davie Provan played for Celtic for nine years winning four league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups before having to retire from the game after being diagnosed with M.E.

But the 67-year-old still keeps a close eye on his old club and he has been left seriously impressed with Honduran international, Luis Palma.

Provan said [The Sunday Post print edition page 60], “I also like Luis Palma. I didn’t know much about him when his name was first mentioned, but he really looks the part.

“He scored a cracker against Atletico Madrid at Parkhead.

“He also scored a really clever goal against Aberdeen when he attacked the back post from a cross from the left-hand side.

“It shows that he is being coached and he is listening to what he is being told.

“At 23, he is still young and has loads of improvement to come. But he is most certainly heading in the right direction.”

Palma’s goals and assists have been crucial in helping Celtic maintain an eight-point gap at the top of the SPFL.

The Honduran has been superb for the Hoops and it is clear that the coaching he has been getting from Harry Kewell is really paying off for Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic fans will be hoping that his form continues as he is now looking like a player who is more than capable of filling the void left by Portuguese favourite, Jota.
