Peter Grant admits he was starting to get worried about 21-year-old Celtic player

Peter Grant has admitted that he wasn’t too sure about Hyunjun Yang when the South Korean first started playing for Celtic.

The former Celtic hero believes that the 21-year-old winger was struggling at the Hoops but a recent upsurge in form has shown Grant that maybe Yang has what it takes to become a good player for the club.

Yang scored his first goal for Celtic in the 6-0 demolition of Aberdeen and it’s fair to say that it was a long time coming.

His skill and trickery on the wing has shown that he can help break down defences but now, with this goal, the Celtic fans will be hoping that Yang will start to gain more confidence and adding more goals to his game.

But Grant, although dubious at the start of the Korean’s Paradise career, has been won over ever since Brendan Rodgers tweaked his position in the Celtic team.

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic tweak that has helped Hyunjun Yang

Grant said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He looks sharper. Because I was a bit concerned, I must admit, because see when he played on the left-hand side, he could never really get away from anyone.

“He had the skill to leave them but then he would always get caught. And I just thought he wasn’t getting away from anyone.

“I think on the right-hand side he’s looking sharper now and whether that has been the length of time he has been in and that wee bit more game time helps him as well.”

Yang looked like a rabbit in the headlights against Rangers and Motherwell this season. For some reason, he seemed fazed with the passion of the opposition fans.

In many ways, that hasn’t changed but what has changed is that the 21-year-old looks more settled and happy now that he’s getting regular football.

And coming in from that right-hand side has been a masterstroke from Rodgers. Yang looks a lot more accomplished and dangerous and the Celtic fans have seen that against St Mirren and Aberdeen.

Let’s hope it continues as Celtic face Motherwell this weekend when the Scottish Premiership finally gets underway again.
