Peter Grant says Celtic should sign 23-year-old striker after what he’s seen of him

The January transfer window draws ever closer and Celtic are already being linked with doing some business in the New Year.

Yuki Kobayashi is being tipped to move on and Celtic are being urged to sign Lawrence Shankland. One thing is for sure, this January is not going be dull for the Hoops support.

Yesterday, TBR Celtic told how Celtic were reportedly looking to sign Sydney van Hooijdonk. The 23-year-old striker is apparently frustrated with life at Bologna and is looking to move on.

And Peter Grant said Celtic should take him if the opportunity presents itself. The former Celtic hero says that from what he has seen, young Hooijdonk may be worth a punt.

Grant said [The Go Radio Football Show], “If Sydney’s anything like his father then I would take him. I’ve not seen him live, I’ve seen wee clips of him, just highlights and seen little bits and bobs of him.

“I know he’s went to Bologna and not scored but Italy is slightly different. A lot of their players, the older players, serious players, play the top end of the pitch.

“Because they’ve always been used to that. And they’re all about winning. And they’re built on defences.

“It’s difficult when you say he’s only scored one goal but how many minutes has he had on the pitch?”

With Celtic reportedly in the hunt for a new striker as backup for Kyogo, Sydney could very well be a great option for Brendan Rodgers.

Young, looking to develop and not quite at the stage of being a regular first-team starter, van Hooijdonk sounds like a player that Celtic already have at the club in Hyeongyu Oh.

But as said earlier, if van Hooijdonk is disillusioned with life in Italy due to lack of minutes on the pitch, is he going to be any happier in Glasgow doing the exact same thing?

I guess that is something the young Dutch striker must consider as he ponders his next transfer move.

In other news, Media can’t believe 24-year-old is barely playing for Celtic after his brilliant display yesterday
