‘No doubt’… Celtic are set to offer 24-year-old a big new contract to stay

The contract talk surrounding Celtic midfielder, David Turnbull, continues today. With the 24-year-old well into the final year of his contract, there is no sign yet that he is set to commit his future to the club.

Hoops boss, Brendan Rodgers, has already stated that the ball is in Turnbull’s court so it does look like it might be a matter of time until a new deal is forthcoming by the club.

The player himself has been fairly laid back about his situation. And to be fair to him, he has every right to be. He’s scoring goals when called upon and helping Celtic to keep their lead intact at the top of the table.

However, journalist, Mark Guidi, says he has a feeling that Celtic could be set to offer him a bumper new deal to stay at the club.

Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He’ll be offered something. He’s important to Celtic. He’s a quality footballer.

“I get the feeling that he may think I want to go and play more football, and maybe he’ll need to go elsewhere to do that.

“It just depends on what will satisfy David. But there’s no doubt that Celtic will make him an offer and make him an attractive offer for him to stay but he might want to look to do something else.”

Turnbull is already said to be on £16k p/w at Celtic. For a fringe player, that’s a very decent salary to be on when you are only called upon every so often to start games for the club.

Just how much Celtic are prepared to offer isn’t known but it seems like it could go further north of the current deal he is already on.

Because according to SalarySport, Turnbull is already in the Top 10 of Celtic’s highest earners. A significant pay rise would place him on a higher salary than Liel Abada, Alistair Johnston and James Forrest.

Is he worth it? At this moment in time he is putting up a very good case that he is. If a new deal is signed then all eyes will be on him to see if he can break into the Celtic first team.
