Michael Stewart has delivered his verdict on Celtic striker, Hyeongyu Oh, after watching him in the Scottish Premiership this season.
The South Korean international has found it difficult to get game time this season behind Kyogo Furuhashi but after a couple of goalscoring games against St Mirren and Aberdeen, it looked like the 22-year-old was finally getting the breaks he deserved.
However, after drawing another blank in a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Motherwell yesterday, Stewart has finally come to a brutal conclusion regarding the Korean.
Stewart said [BBC Sportsound], “When you look at the likes of [Hyeongyu] Oh, that’s clearly somewhere they are going to have to do better because he’s the fallback guy when Kyogo’s maybe not firing on all cylinders or they want something a bit different.
“He’s had a lot of chances but he doesn’t score enough goals. And the difference between him and Giakoumakis is just staring everybody in the face.”
Hyeongyu Oh has the quality but just not the time at Celtic
Oh has shown that he has the quality to be a very good goalscorer for Celtic. Last season he averaged a goal every 85 minutes as he started to flourish under Ange Postecoglou.
However, he has found it difficult to get some regular game time under Brendan Rodgers which has led to doubts being cast on the 22-year-old’s future as a Celtic striker.
TBR Celtic told this morning how Stewart claimed that Lawrence Shankland is a player that Celtic should be looking at to solve their looming January striker crisis.
With Oh looking like he will be heading to the Asian Cup as well, he won’t get the opportunity for a decent run in the Celtic team with Furuhashi almost a definite to be selected by Hajime Moriyasu.
