With Celtic looking ahead to the January transfer window intent on trimming the squad, pundit Tam McManus believes that there is one player who is fighting for his Parkhead career right now.
Assessing Celtic’s performance in the 6-0 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, McManus says that despite thinking Hyeongyu Oh is a good backup to Kyogo Furuhashi, the South Korean international is battling to save his Hoops career.
McManus said [PLZ Soccer], “I like him as a player. I don’t think he’s had a run of games so far. I think he’s an able deputy for Kyogo.
“When he comes on over the last couple of weeks he’s doing well. He’s scoring goals and giving the manager something to think about.
“He’s fighting for his career at Celtic. I think Celtic will probably dip into the transfer market and buy another striker.
“But he’s all he can do is come off the bench and score goals and he’s done that.”
Hyeongyu Oh still has a good future at Celtic
Despite playing second fiddle to Kyogo Furuhashi, Oh still has a large part to play for Celtic this season and for the foreseeable future.
He has also been tipped to have a great international career by South Korea boss, Jurgen Klinsmann.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
The Korean striker proved last season that if he is given an opportunity he will score goals. Last year the 22-year-old averaged a goal every 84 minutes as he made most of his 21 appearances from the bench hitting the back of the net seven times. [Transfermarkt]
This season he is slightly off that. Scoring three times in 13 appearances, the £2.5m signing by Ange Postecoglou is averaging a goal every 100 minutes so far.
But when you take into account that Oh is only getting on average 24 minutes per game this season it is little wonder he is finding it difficult to find a scoring streak.
Fighting for his future? I don’t buy that. I think he’s just getting started.
