‘100%’: John Hartson says there’s a signing Brendan Rodgers simply must make at Celtic

The transfer window is heading towards us quickly and the Celtic fans will be watching keenly to see which areas of the team the manager will strengthen.

It was reported that Celtic did try and sign a left-back and a goalkeeper during the summer with reports linking the club to goalkeepers Andriy Lunin and Caoimh Kelleher doing the rounds.

However, John Hartson believes Celtic need to strengthen one key area of the team. Especially with the Asian Cup coming up in January.

Hartson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “We spoke about Kyogo and Maeda being away for the Asian Cup and obviously they are big players for Japan now.

“Oh, I like. He puts himself about. From what I’ve seen of him he’s okay.

“Not had enough game time to really judge. So 100% he needs to go buy a striker and I think Brendan is intelligent enough and he knows the game and I think he realises a striker is imperative.”

The striker position is one that has plagued Celtic ever since Giorgos Giakoumakis left the club last January.

Don’t get me wrong, Hyeongyu Oh did well last season under Ange Postecoglou and was scoring quite regularly considering his limited minutes on the pitch.

But with both leaving and Daizen Maeda also likely to be going to the Asian Cup, Celtic will be left extremely short up front during a pivotal part of the season.

Celtic have plenty of money to spend. They have also been told that signing Hearts striker, Lawrence Shankland, could prove to be a very good option but is the 28-year-old really the answer to such an important question?

I don’t have the answer but hopefully, Brendan Rodgers does because if Celtic don’t fill that position, it could make or break their season.

In other news, Brendan Rodgers would have never allowed ‘powerful’ Celtic man Ange Postecoglou sold to leave the club
