‘He will be a handful’… BBC pundit warns Manchester City about £64m Liverpool player

Chris Sutton has backed Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez to make an impact against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The former Chelsea striker has also predicted how the Premier League match between City and Liverpool will pan out.

So, what has Chris Sutton said about Liverpool, Darwin Nunez and Manchester City? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Manchester City will lock horns with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

City are the defending Premier League champions, while Liverpool are aiming to beat Pep Guardiola’s side to the title.

Chris Sutton has been looking ahead to the match. The former Chelsea striker believes that City will win it.

The BBC Sport pundit, though, has warned that Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez could be a problem for the Citizens.

Sutton told BBC Sport: “I think these teams will finish the season in the top two. Every time they meet, it makes for such an intriguing game.

“Liverpool carry such a threat through Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Nunez has been on fire for Uruguay this week – scoring three goals in total against Argentina and Bolivia.

“Nunez does miss a few too, we know that, but he will be a handful, and the pace that Liverpool have on the counter-attack means they are very capable of rattling Manchester City the same way Chelsea did before the international break.

“City won’t change their approach though, because they don’t take a backward step against anyone. I’d expect them to dominate possession, and of course they will play on the front foot even though they know Liverpool can hurt them on the break.

“Home advantage will definitely help, though. Pep Guardiola’s side have won all 23 of their games at Etihad Stadium so far this year and their draw with Everton on 31 December 2022 was the last time they failed to win there, in any competition.

“That’s the main reason why I am going for them to just about edge this one and find a way to win but, whether Haaland plays or not, it is going to be extremely close.

“Sutton’s prediction: 2-1.”

Darwin Nunez could be a problem for Liverpool vs Manchester City

In my opinion, Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez could cause havoc for the Manchester City defenders at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, we know that Nunez is not the cleanest of strikers of the ball. The Uruguay international can be awkward when trying to score.

However, Nunez is a very mobile player who can run fast with the ball and without it. The £64 million (BBC Sport) striker is also capable of taking up important positions in the final third.

City do have world-class defenders and a brilliant defensive unit. However, Pep Guardiola’s side concede goals.

I think that we should not be surprised if Nunez scores or facilitates a goal for Liverpool against City.
