American media share their verdicts on Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers international performance yesterday

Celtic defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers, won his 16th cap for the US National Men’s team last night in the 2-1 loss to Trinidad & Tobago.

However, despite the defeat Carter-Vickers and the US team still move on to the next phase of qualifying for the 2024 Copa America as they defeat the Trinidadians 4-2 on aggregate overall.

But for the Celtic defender, he didn’t have his best of games for his country. Usually dependable and reliable, Carter-Vickers had an off night and it was noticed by the media in the US.

MLS Soccer: “The Celtic defender could perhaps have been stronger in holding off Reon Moore for Trinidad’s opener after allowing the striker to get in behind.

“Overall he was solid against a physical frontline, but his distribution left something to be desired.”

ESPN: “Some good defensive interventions, although he was questionable at times when the hosts pressured the USMNT back line.”

USA Today: “Carter-Vickers had some rocky moments, and was outmuscled by Moore on the first goal.

“In general, the Celtic centre-back had some awkward misjudgments of bounces and long balls over the top, though he did improvise a few headers in those moments that were just barely enough to prevent further damage.

“His play in the final half-hour was more steady, but ultimately it wasn’t his best night at the office.”

The £6m signing from Tottenham clearly struggled to find his best form but I don’t think that will have a long-term bearing on his standing with the American side as many of his teammates were not at their best.

His brilliant form for Celtic has led to speculation that he could move on from the club but Carter-Vickers poured cold water over that earlier this season by declaring he is happy at the club and has no plans to move on.

For the Celtic fans, they can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their star defender will be returning from international duty injury-free as they look to embark on a tough run of fixtures that will last through to the end of December.
