‘So clever’: John Robertson claims £4.6m Celtic star leaves defenders ‘petrified’ with his movement

Kyogo Furuhashi is a player who is so dangerous for Celtic and former Hearts striker, now BBC pundit, John Robertson, has shared how when he watched the Japanese striker, it left defenders feeling petrified.

The £4.6m signing from Vissel Kobe has earned a reputation for being ‘electric’ on the pitch and Robertson said he saw with his own eyes how defenders in the SPFL react when they face up to the Japan international after watching him against Ross County yesterday.

Robertson said [BBC Sportsound], “I watched when Celtic were up at Tannadice last year. The director’s box is behind the bottom goal so when Celtic were shooting down that way you got a great view of the whole pitch wide open and they almost started five, six yards behind the defenders.

“So they were looking, despite the fact, the balls in front of them, and for the majority of the game, the ball is in front you, they were petrified.

“Because they were looking around to see where Kyogo was and whenever they’ve turned around to have a look at them and he was there.

“He’s so clever, the moment they turned their back to see where the ball is, he disappears, five, six, seven yards to the right or left or suddenly he’s sprinting past them to come short.

“And they don’t realise he’s there. So he’s very very, clever movement and he does it all the time.”

Earlier today, TBR Celtic spoke about how former Celtic hero, Pat Bonner said that Kyogo has lost his edge at Celtic due to the way Rodgers sets up his team but there is no doubt that he has still been an effective player for the team.

The Japan international has already tucked away seven goals in 15 appearances so he still possesses a huge goal threat for Rodgers despite his changing role.

Regardless of where he plays, Kyogo continues to be a thorn in the SPFL defenders’ sides. He still gives them a torrid time and as long as he continues to do that, then Rodgers will look to keep him in that deeper role as it benefits the overall performance of the team.
