‘Not to blame’: Some Celtic fans defend one player after Hearts loss

Celtic suffered a crushing defeat on Saturday night at Tynecastle – but some of their fans on Twitter at least decided to give Anthony Ralston an honourable mention for his display.

The Hoops kickstarted the league season with a 2-1 away loss against newly-promoted club Hearts.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have already been eliminated from the Champions League during qualifiers, but tonight’s result is understandably causing real uproar from the fanbase.

Gary Mackay-Steven put Hearts in front in the opening 10 minutes with his goal. However, defender Ralston was a surprise goalscorer to equaliser in the second half. It was the hosts though that took three points on the opening day with a John Souttar headed goal in the 89th minute.

Celtic know they’ll have to be much better than last season to challenge defending champions Rangers, but right now a potential title bid will be the last thing on their mind.

Anthony Ralston named a rare Celtic positive

It’s a crushing way for Celtic to start the league, with vulnerability in defence standing out as a problem.

Ralston, 22, did catch the eye though from a selection of the club’s fanbase.

The Scottish right-back got on the scoresheet with a superb individual goal, as he weaved his way to the edge of the box before a shot with his left foot.

He’s not in the team though for his offensive work and both full-back positions are areas that surely the Scottish giants need to try strengthen in before the window shuts.

It does look like right now there is a lack of confidence all over the pitch.

Here are some Hoops fans at least giving credit to Ralston on a frustrating night:
