Antonio Conte has been appointed as the new manager of Tottenham. The former Chelsea boss returns to London to replace Nuno Espirito Santo who was sacked yesterday.
Conte is a taskmaster of a manager. At this moment in time, the Tottenham squad needs a manager that will ruffle some feathers and boy have they nailed it.
The Italian is a proven winner. He has won league titles with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter, with the future now looking exceptionally bright for the white half of North London.
Conte has a reputation for squeezing every last drop of ability out of his players. In 2016/17, he managed to get Pedro to produce his best season as a Chelsea player and now he must do the same for one particular Tottenham star.
Giovani Lo Celso has proved an enigma since signing for Tottenham. As of yet, it’s unsure where he’s actually best utilised or whether he’s even capable of performing in the Premier League.
The Argentine originally signed for the club on loan. His early performances weren’t bad and that tempted Spurs into a £27 million purchase.
He’s still struggled to get up to speed, however, and he’s proving a frustrating member of the Tottenham squad.
In 77 appearances for Spurs, he has made eight appearances and registered five assists. That isn’t really good enough, although he has played under defence-minded managers.
Conte can get Lo Celso firing at Tottenham – just like he did with Pedro
During the 2016/17 campaign, Pedro was mesmerising. He scored 13 goals and registered 12 assists as Chelsea roared to the Premier League title.
Conte’s attacking style of play should delight some of the suffering Tottenham players, and that includes Lo Celso.
The £70,000-a-week player typically operates through the middle, although he’s not completely averse to playing in a wide area.
Conte isn’t really a fan of a defensive approach and perhaps now Tottenham fans will start to see the real Lo Celso.
Much like Pedro did, the 25-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance.
Under Conte, he could now kick on even further and start to justify Tottenham’s faith of the last two years.
