Report: Newcastle offered chance to sign Chelsea winger Pedro

The Chronicle have claimed that Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Chelsea winger Pedro on a free transfer this summer, the second Chelsea player that has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park.

World Cup winner Pedro, 32, is out of contract this summer but the Spaniard has not fully closed the door on remaining at Stamford Bridge – being quoted by the Chronicle as saying: “I don’t know whether I’ll keep playing here or not.”

Since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2015 from Barcelona, Pedro has clocked up 201 appearances for the west London side – scoring 43 goals and laying on 28 assists. But this season, the rise of Mason Mount has pushed Pedro out of the picture.

ESPN claim Newcastle’s prospective new owners have made contact with Willian’s agent over a move to Tyneside and now it is being suggested that Pedro could also move north – with the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) player offered to Newcastle.

TBR’s view – Pedro would be a top signing for Newcastle

If he is brought to the club as a marquee player, and The Toon still go after a number of younger players to learn from the Spaniard. His experiences winning the World Cup and Champions League would massively improve Newcastle.

That is, both on and off the field. A decade older than Allan Saint-Maximin, Pedro could help Newcastle’s fan favourite improve over the next couple of years if he moves to St. James’ Park. On a free, Pedro is a no brainer.
