Fowler urges Liverpool to make bid for Harry Kane this summer

Robbie Fowler has told the Mirror that he believes that Liverpool could do a lot worse than try and sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and suggested that Spurs are some distance away from winning trophies.

Kane has been unbelievable in recent weeks. He has certainly put a slow start to the campaign behind him. And he is leading Tottenham’s charge to go on and finish in the top-four in the Premier League. Antonio Conte said after their win on Sunday that he is ‘amazing’ and ‘not normal’.

Right now, Spurs sit fourth. However, they are level on points with Arsenal and have played two games more. There is a North London derby to come though, so everything is still to play for.

It does appear that there is a lot more riding on this season for Tottenham than Arsenal. And that is because of the speculation surrounding the futures of Antonio Conte and Kane himself.

Certainly, Kane looks set to attract offers this summer. Manchester United have already been linked. And they could reportedly offer Anthony Martial in a swap deal.

But Fowler has now suggested that his old side should put themselves in the mix for Kane.

“United will be in, for sure, and this is a bit left-field, but I’ve said before that Liverpool could do worse than go for him, because he’s got that ability to drop deep like Firmino, and he can guarantee goals,” he told the Mirror.

“So he has a question to ask: Are Spurs closer now to winning trophies? I think objectively, and without appearing to put them down, most people would say they’re further away than before.”

Liverpool pursuing Kane surely will not happen without one of their star forwards leaving

It is hard to imagine Liverpool pursuing a deal for Kane this summer. He turns 29 in the coming months. And he is going to cost a serious amount of money.

The Reds have so much quality in attack. And they do not need to prioritise signing another forward in the summer. Jurgen Klopp is likely to have much bigger priorities.

Perhaps that would change if Liverpool sold one of their stars at the end of the season.

But it would unquestionably be one of the most stunning deals in Premier League history if Liverpool went and signed Kane this summer.
