Klopp calls up 19-year-old likened to a ‘young Gerrard’ to Liverpool training pre-CL final

Liverpool will play the 63rd and final game of their season on Saturday when they contest the Champions League final.

The Reds have reached the final of the competition for the third time in five seasons. They will hope to get the better of Real Madrid this time round.

Liverpool already won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. They also finished second in the Premier League table despite breaking the 90-point barrier.

Now, Liverpool will hope to make it a treble of cup triumphs this season, by lifting a Champions League for the second time in four campaigns.

On Wednesday, the Reds shared photos from their latest training session ahead of Saturday’s showpiece at the Stade de France.

While Klopp likely knows already who’ll make up his starting XI, there were several academy players also taking part in training.

One of those was Tyler Morton, who shone for Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this season.

The 19-year-old made his competitive Reds debut this season, coming off the bench against Norwich in the Carabao Cup.

‘Outstanding in midfield’

Morton then announced himself on a continental level against AC Milan in December’s Champions League clash.

The teenager looked assured against one of the continent’s titans, and completed 38 of his 45 attempted passes.

“I think we should all calm down but it was really good tonight and a big pleasure to watch the boy playing,” Klopp said after that game.

“The football brain he showed tonight was absolutely exceptional.”

Likewise, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher loved what he saw from the academy graduate.

“I thought Tyler Morton was outstanding in midfield,” Carragher told CBS Sports – via Metro – post-match.

“He was fantastic, for a teenage player, playing for Liverpool who are one of the biggest clubs in European football and your home town club, in the San Siro.”

Liverpool fans have compared Morton to the likes of Rodri, Dietmar Hamann, Luis Alberto and even a ‘young Gerrard‘.

The Mirror has reported that Klopp intends to name Morton, Rhys Williams and Owen Beck in Saturday’s matchday squad.

If true, this is amazing news. It’s just the kind of vote of confidence that’ll make them feel they can make the breakthrough at Anfield and become stars.
