Klopp calls up utterly ‘outstanding’ 19-year-old to Liverpool training ahead of Champions League final

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been putting his players through their paces ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The Reds have reached the final of the competition for the third time in five seasons. They’ll be taking on the same team they faced in the 2018 showpiece in Kyiv.

Liverpool have taken part in every game available to them this season. At the Stade de France, they’ll take to the pitch for the 63rd and final time in 2021-22.

The Anfield outfit has already won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. They also finished second in the Premier League table despite breaking the 90-point barrier.

Now, Liverpool will hope to make it a treble of cup triumphs this season, by lifting a Champions League for the second time in four campaigns.

On Wednesday, the Reds shared photos from their latest training session ahead of Saturday’s big game.

Some youth players took part in the session, including the impressive Owen Beck.

Beck has enjoyed a superb campaign at Anfield, starring for the Under-23s and making his senior Liverpool debut.

The 19-year-old came off the bench against Preston in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

He also came on for 10 minutes against Leicester in the fifth round of the same competition.

Klopp named Beck in a further four senior matchday squads. Three in the Premier League and one in the FA Cup.

“He glides with the ball”

Beck also made his debut for Wales Under-21s this season. He got his first goal for them in November’s win over Gibraltar.

The youngster – whose great-uncle is Liverpool legend Ian Rush – earned praise from Dragons U21 boss Paul Bodin.

“There’s no doubt in the coming months, coming years for sure, that Owen will be around their first-team and he’ll play in Liverpool’s team I’m sure,” he told BBC Sport a few days after the game.

“He’s an outstanding young talent, left-footed. He glides with the ball, as well as being a very good defender.

“His goal that he scored for us the other evening, the first goal to get us going, was typical of Owen really.”

The Mirror has reported that Klopp intends to name Beck, Rhys Williams and Tyler Morton in Saturday’s matchday squad.

This shows just how highly the Liverpool manager rates them, and hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more from them next term.
