Leicester ace Youri Tielemans reaffirms Champions League football desire

Influential Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has reaffirmed his desire to be playing Champions League football and has admitted he will ‘see what happens’ in the summer.

The Belgian international is out of contract with the Foxes next summer and the upcoming transfer window may present the best opportunity for Leicester to cash in on their number eight.

According to 90min, the 24-year-old is not interested in extending his deal with the King Power Stadium side and is set on securing a big money move with a number of the Premier League’s biggest clubs interested in securing his services.

The former AS Monaco man was asked about his future during the international break and he suggested that he will have a decision to make in the summer with him having less than 12 months remaining on his current Leicester deal.

“I don’t worry about [transfer rumours]. I want to get the most out of myself this season and finish as high as possible with the team,” Tielemans said.

“Of course, I want to play in the Champions League, just like any footballer. Am I ready for a European top club? I’m ready to get the best out of my career. We’ll see what happens next summer, or the summer after that.”

The matchwinner in last year’s FA Cup final against Chelsea, Tielemans has already proven his big match pedigree and will probably feel he’s achieved all he can under Brendan Rodgers.

With a UEFA Conference League quarter-final tie looming with PSV Eindhoven, the Belgium international would love to add a European trophy to his CV.

With the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle chasing his signature, the midfield technician isn’t going to be short of offers.

It’s Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal that are leading the race according to The Sun.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson described the midfielder as “an incredible talent” on Sky Sports News (12:59pm, October 23, 2021).

But having signed Youri Tielemans from French side Monaco for £40m (The Sun) two-and-a-half years ago, the 2017 Premier League winners will not allow him to leave on the cheap, and could look to recoup the £40m they spent on him, despite the limited time remaining on his contract.
