Arsenal fans rave about Takehiro Tomiyasu, after another dominant defensive display for Japan

Takehiro Tomiyasu helped Japan keep another clean sheet against Oman on Tuesday evening – and Arsenal fans have heaped praise on their defender.

In Group B of 2022 World Cup qualifying, Japan knew a win would keep them above Australia and sit in second place – if they could beat Oman.

They did just that, ending November’s international break with two 1-0 away wins over Oman and Vietnam. With four games left, they look strong.

Tomiyasu is in electric form at the back. For club and country, the versatile defender has now played 14 times – Arsenal, Japan and once for Bologna.

In that time, he has helped those he has played for keep an astounding nine clean sheets. Three with Japan, five with Arsenal and one with Bologna.

Indeed, Tomiyasu has now kept a consecutive four clean sheets in his last four games – Oman, Vietnam, Leicester City and Watford.

Playing on the right of a back four for Mikel Arteta, Tomiyasu plays in the middle of the defence for his country. He did so against Oman, on Tuesday.

What are Arsenal fans saying about Tomiyasu and his Japan outing?

For just £18million, Tomiyasu has been quite the signing and having only just turned 23 – the Japanese star is showing enormous potential.

Right-back, right of a back three or as a centre-back in a back four – he can do no wrong. His toughest test this season comes on Saturday evening.

Arsenal travel north to face Liverpool, which will easily be the best side Tomiyasu has faced this season. But fans are delighted with their defender.
