Five key passes, two assists… 22-year-old Celtic player’s performance vs Aberdeen went under-the-radar

Celtic’s performance against Aberdeen in the 6-0 thrashing of Barry Robson’s team has really grabbed the headlines.

In fact, there are only really two players that have been receiving most of the plaudits. Hyunjun Yang and Luis Palma’s performances were labelled as ‘brilliant‘ by BBC pundit and Aberdeen legend, Willie Miller.

But there is one other player who produced an incredible performance for Celtic that no one seems to be talking about.

So now, here at TBR Celtic, we give Matt O’Riley a massive shoutout because he was truly outstanding against The Dons.

Matt O’Riley’s Celtic performance was sublime

The Danish u21 international continues to impress as he put in another sparkling performance against Aberdeen.

Football website SofaScore rated the 22-year-old’s performance at 9.1/10. During his 90 minutes on the park O’Riley had 87 touches with a passing success rate of 83%.

He made five key passes, created two assists, completed six out of seven long ball attempts and missed one big chance.

O’Riley also had three shots on goal with one saved and created two big chances.

Defensively the £1.5m signing from MK Dons won four out of eight ground duels and two out of three aerial duels.

And to top it all off he dribbled past an opposition midfielder twice as he helped put Aberdeen to the sword.

O’Riley’s performance was superb as he hammered home again why he is Scotland’s best player this season.

Celtic fans will be delighted that O’Riley is on a new long-term deal at the club because, with his current performances both domestically and in Europe, it won’t be long before a club from a bigger league tries to tempt him away from Paradise.
