‘Would’ve been a starter’… Pundit says £4m Tottenham player would be in the team now if he was fit

Tottenham have had so many injuries of late it’s almost hard to keep track of who’s out.

The north London club have almost an entire XI unavailable for selection at the moment, and some of their absentees are seriously long-term.

James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur won’t be back until the new year, while Ivan Perisic may not play again this season after suffering an ACL injury.

Speaking on The Spurs Show Podcast, David Howells has been discussing Perisic’s injury, and he’s noted how much of a shame it is that the Croatian is out at the moment, claiming that he’d done so well off the bench early in the season and that he’d be a starter now if he was fit.

Ivan Perisic would start now if he was fit

Howells shared his verdict on the £4m man.

“People forget the early injuries we had as well, Manor Solomon and Perisic, they were both big players. Solomon started a few games before his injuries and Perisic looked really good off the bench this season and he would’ve been a starter over the past three or four games,” Howells said.

Massive shame Perisic is injured

It has to be said that it’s a huge shame that Perisic went down with this injury when he did.

As Howells says, the 34-year-old was rolling back the years off the bench earlier this season, and if he’d kept that up, he may have earned a starting spot.

Perisic is such a useful player to have due to his experience, quality and versatility, but sadly, Tottenham have been robbed of the chance to utilise him this season.

Perisic has had such a fantastic career, and while an ACL injury is tough to come back from, we can only hope that we haven’t seen the last of him.
