‘Turned the corner’: Celtic fans rave about new signing, after narrow win over Hearts

Carl Starfelt produced an excellent display for Celtic on Thursday evening as the Hoops edged past Hearts to win 1-0 – and Celtic fans have reacted on Twitter, delighted to see he is improving.

Signed for a hefty £4.5million (Record) from Russian side Rubin Kazan, 26-year-old defender Starfelt struggled during the early stages of the season. He made mistakes against Hearts at Tynecastle, and AZ Alkmaar.

Starfelt remained in the side, with Christopher Jullien on the sidelines and the Sweden international preferred to Stephen Welsh alongside USA ace Cameron Carter-Vickers.

But he is starting to improve. In his 21 appearances, Celtic have kept 10 clean sheets – and another came on Thursday night. Starfelt was pivotal to the win, with WhoScored reporting that he won five headers.

What do Celtic fans think of Starfelt, after his display against Hearts?

That was more than any other player on the pitch. Starfelt enjoyed more touches than any other player, with 117. Ange Postecoglou’s side clearly feel possession is the best form of defence.

But it was his passing ability, too. He completed 95 of his 104 passes, and eight of his nine long balls. It was a very improved performance from Starfelt – and he was absolutely sensational from start to finish.

Celtic fans were delighted to see Starfelt’s polished display at the heart of the Hoops defence. Many supporters have heaped praise, alluding to his solid efforts at the back.
