Alasdair Gold says some people are worried £15m Tottenham target is too small

Lloyd Kelly has been linked to Tottenham for a little while now.

The Bournemouth defender was the subject of a bid from Spurs on deadline day in the summer, and there’s been plenty of chat about the north London club going back in for the centre-back in January.

However, while Kelly is a player Tottenham are looking at, there are some concerns around the defender and some of his capabilities.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Kelly and how he is viewed, and he says that some people have concerns about the left-footer’s height, claiming that he may eventually be transitioned into being a left-back due to his stature.

Kelly’s height a concern

Gold shared what he’s heard about the £15m defender.

“I’m interested to see if they go back for Lloyd Kelly or not, but he’s featured quite regularly for Bournemouth. I’ve had some people I’ve spoken to have a few concerns about his height and if he will remain a centre-back for the long-term, he plays as a left-back sometimes as well as a centre-back,” Gold said.

Kelly’s height is easy to target

As simple as it sounds, if you’re a 5ft 10 centre-back in the Premier League these days your height is going to be targeted.

We may have moved away from the 4-4-2 long-ball style of play in recent years in England, but make no mistake about it, modern day target man exist, and they’re very dangerous.

Erling Haaland, Darwin Nunez, Alexander Isak and Rasmus Hojlund are all at least 6ft 2, and they will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing off against a defender who can’t match them for strength or size.

Kelly is a very good player, but he may just be too small to be a centre-back for a top club.
