‘Here we go’: Fabrizio Romano confirms that Celtic are close to £4.2m signing

Celtic have reportedly reached an agreement with Rubin Kazan for 26-year-old defender Carl Starfelt.

Sky Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the Hoops have completed a €5m (£4.2m) deal to sign the Swedish centre-back.

Starfelt will become Celtic’s third signing this summer following the arrivals of Sheffield Wednesday duo Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide.

The Italian reporter said: “Celtic have reached an agreement with Rubin Kazan to sign Carl Starfelt, done deal and here we go. €5m as final fee, negotiations completed.”

Celtic have been chasing a centre-back for most of the summer window. But now the Scottish giants have got their man in the form of Starfelt.

The defender is a key player for Kazan as the centre-back made 29 appearances in the Russian Premier League last season. Starfelt also scored three goals.

Starfelt has also made a handful of appearances for the Swedish national team.

However, his last cap for the Scandinavian nation came in 2020. He was not part of the Euro 2020 squad this summer.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Celtic’s attention will now shift to Stade Rennais youngster Brandon Soppy.

The Hoops have been linked with the teenager for most of the summer, and now the fullback is the club’s main target following the capture of Starfelt.
