‘Super player’… Pundit says £15m player should’ve played a lot more than he did for Liverpool

Liverpool have had a few players over the years whose careers have been completely hampered by injuries.

Thiago Alcantara, Daniel Sturridge and Nathaniel Clyne all had their Anfield stints affected by injury issues, but perhaps the most notable injury-blighted player Liverpool have had in recent years is Danny Ings.

The England international, quite simply, couldn’t stay fit at Liverpool, playing just 14 league games for the Reds in four years at the club, and, sadly, he had to leave Anfield without making much of an impact.

Speaking on Off The Ball, Keith Treacy has been discussing Ings and his stint at Liverpool, and he reckons if he’d stayed fit during that time, he would’ve been a much more effective player for the Reds, claiming he should’ve played more games than he actually did.

Danny Ings should’ve played more for Liverpool

Treacy shared his verdict on the £15m man.

“He’s been dogged by injuries, and you could tell he had to change his game because he was quick and he’d run the channels and show how talented he was. A super player. Had he not had those injuries, I think Klopp even said at the time that he didn’t really want him to leave, that’s how highly he was thought of at Liverpool despite not playing the number of games he probably should’ve,” Treacy said.

Ings could’ve been brilliant

Ings really could’ve been a good player for Liverpool.

Roberto Firmino was, of course, unreal during that period, but in games where Liverpool just needed to nick a goal, Ings would’ve been a great plan B.

Ings showed at Southampton that he’s a more than capable striker at this level – netting more than 20 league goals in one season, but, sadly, he never got the chance to flex his abilities at Anfield in the way he probably should have.

In another world, Ings could’ve been a real cult hero for Liverpool in the same way Divock Origi ultimately proved to be.
