Darren Bent says ‘phenomenal’ Arsenal star wouldn’t get into Spurs starting XI

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale wouldn’t get into Tottenham Hotspur’s starting XI ahead of Guglielmo Vicario, according to Darren Bent.

The talkSPORT pundit said on the radio station – via X – that, while the Gunners ace would get in most Premier League teams, it wouldn’t be the case at Spurs.

Ramsdale was previously first-choice at Arsenal but has since dropped to second-choice, with Mikel Arteta preferring David Raya instead.

Meanwhile, Tottenham signed Vicario in the summer, with Hugo Lloris opting to seek a move elsewhere, and Spurs haven’t looked back.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, Ramsdale may well look to leave Arsenal and join another team in pursuit of regular starts.

Bent, speaking on talkSPORT, believes the Gunners man would be a great fit for most Premier League outfits.

However, he agreed with Andy Goldstein that he wouldn’t dislodge Vicario from the Spurs XI.

“This is where the sticking point is,” began Bent.

“Because when you look at the league table and you start thinking about Aaron Ramsdale, I think he can go pretty much… not everywhere, but there are a lot of clubs out there, I believe he’s better than their goalkeeper now.”

Goldstein said: “Tottenham I’d say no.” To which Bent replied: “No. I’d say Villa’s, no. Martinez, good goalkeeper. Newcastle’s, I’d have Adam Pope.”

In the clip shared by talkSPORT’s X page, Bent went on to say Ramsdale is better than the goalkeepers at Manchester United and West Ham.

Goldstein then added that the £120,000-a-week (Spotrac) Arsenal man “is certainly better than Chelsea’s” keepers.

Vicario a revelation for Tottenham as Arsenal face goalkeeping drama – TBR View

To think that, just a few months ago, Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation seemed dire. Hugo Lloris had had a poor season and he also expressed a desire to leave. He hasn’t played for the club since.

Spurs were linked with David Raya, as were Arsenal, but Tottenham pulled the plug on a move for the Spaniard and went with a relatively unknown (in the UK anyway) Italian from a modest Serie A club.

However, fast-forward a few months and Vicario has been sensational for Tottenham – you could argue he has been better than both Ramsdale and Raya.

Nonetheless, Ramsdale is a ‘phenomenal‘ keeper and hopefully he can find a good solution in January that leads to the regular starts he deserves.
