Alasdair Gold says £17m Spurs player has been ’10/10′ so far and ‘will only get better’

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a superb start to the season for the most part.

Plenty of Spurs players have impressed, including some that few expected to do so well at the start of the campaign.

For instance, Guglielmo Vicario joined Tottenham to a fairly mixed reception, but he quickly won everyone over with his outstanding performances.

With the international break now under way, Alasdair Gold has rated every Spurs player for how they’ve done so far this season.

Vicario was one of three players who received a perfect 10, alongside Micky van de Ven and James Maddison.

‘Ridiculously good’

Gold, writing on football.london, says the Italian has been “superb” and believes he’ll “only get better” as the defence becomes more settled.

“In one word – superb,” wrote Gold.

“After some very premature concerns among a few following his debut at Brentford, when he was still getting to know a newly-thrown together defence in front of him, Vicario has made a wonderful start to life at Spurs.

“He’s been assured with both his hands and feet, making spectacular saves – nominated twice for Premier League Save of the Month – and he’s very comfortable in doing the basics well.

“His performance against Chelsea, when he had to act as a sweeper keeper/midfielder behind Spurs’ eight other men, was ridiculously good.

“As the north London club’s first new No.1 in 11 years – albeit wearing 13 – he’s made the transition seamlessly and what’s most exciting is that he will only get better as the defence finally settles.

“We’re still giving him top marks because it’s difficult to think of many, if any, mistakes he’s made.”

Tottenham strike gold with Vicario signing – TBR View

Vicario’s success just goes to show that people can’t just jump to conclusions when it comes to new signings.

In the summer, Tottenham were reported to be after David Raya, before pulling the plug and moving for Vicario instead.

Admittedly, Raya was the better-known option at the time – from a Premier League perspective anyway.

However, Vicario was very highly rated in Italy, with pundits and peers all saying how good he was.

This has certainly been the case, and you’ll struggle to find anyone thinking Raya would’ve been the better option now.

Tottenham have struck gold with Vicario’s signing – as well as several others, such as Van de Ven, Maddison and, prior to this summer, Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr.
